People: And a great King above all gods!
OPENING SONG: “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”
1) When the trumpet of the Lord shall sound and time shall be no more
And the morning breaks eternal bright and fair
When the saved of earth shall gather over on the other shore
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there

Chorus: When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder,
When the roll is called up yonder, When the roll is called up yonder I’ll be there.
2) On that bright and cloudless morning when the dead in Christ shall rise
And the glory of His resurrection share
When His chosen ones are gathered to their home beyond the skies
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there
3) Let us labor for the Master from the dawn till setting sun
Let us talk of all His wondrous love and care
Then when all of life is over and our work on earth is done
And the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there

GREETING AND CONFESSION OF FAITH:
Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy
Spirit be with you all.
People: And also with you.
Leader: In Christ, you have heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.
People: We believe in him and are marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.
Leader: Living together in trust and hope, we confess our faith.
All: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the
Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified,
died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended
into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the
living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Leader: Build yourselves up on your most holy faith;

People: Pray in the Holy Spirit.
Leader: keep yourselves in the love of God;
People: Look forward to the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Leader: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation:
People: Everything old has passed away; behold, everything has become new!
Leader: Gracious God,
All: Have mercy on us. In your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things
done and left undone. Uphold us by your Spirit so that we may live and serve you in
newness of life, to the honor and glory of your holy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Leader: The almighty and merciful Lord grant us pardon, forgiveness, and remission of all our
sins.
All: Amen!
HOLY SCRIPTURE: St. Matthew 13:1-9. 18-23
13 That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat beside the sea.  2  Such great crowds gathered around
him that he got into a boat and sat there, while the whole crowd stood on the beach.  3  And he told them many
things in parables, saying: “Listen! A sower went out to sow.  4  And as he sowed, some seeds fell on the path,
and the birds came and ate them up.  5  Other seeds fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil,
and they sprang up quickly, since they had no depth of soil.  6  But when the sun rose, they were scorched; and
since they had no root, they withered away.  7  Other seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and
choked them.  8  Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some
thirty.  9  Let anyone with ears [a]  listen!”
18  “Hear then the parable of the sower.  19  When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand
it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in the heart; this is what was sown on the path.  20  As for
what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;  21  yet
such a person has no root, but endures only for a while, and when trouble or persecution arises on account of
the word, that person immediately falls away. [a]   22  As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears
the word, but the cares of the world and the lure of wealth choke the word, and it yields nothing.  23  But as for
what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and
yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”
PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Leader: Let us pray together,
All: Almighty God, we thank you for planting in us the seed of your word. By your holy Spirit
help us to receive it with joy, live according to it, and grow in faith and hope and love,
through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.
HOMILY
HYMN OF THE DAY: “Bringing in the Sheaves”
1) Sowing in the morning, Sowing seeds of kindness, Sowing in the noontide and the
dewy eve; Waiting for the harvest, and the time of reaping, We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
Chorus: Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves, We shall come rejoicing bringing
in the sheaves. Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves. We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.

2) Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows, Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s
chilling breeze; By and by the harvest, and the labor ended, We shall come rejoicing,
bringing in the sheaves.
3) Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master, Though the loss sustained our spirit
often grieves; When our weeping’s over, He will bid us welcome, We shall come
rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE
LORD’S PRAYER:
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us
from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
BENEDICTION
CLOSING HYMN: “I Need Thee Every Hour”
1) I need thee every hour, Most gracious Lord, No tender voice like Thine Can peace
afford.
Chorus: I need Thee, O I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee; O bless me now, my Savior, I
come to Thee.
2) I need Thee every hour, Stay Thou near by; Temptations lose their power When Thou
art nigh.
3) I need Thee every hour, In joy or pain; Come, quickly and abide, Or life is vain.
4) I need Thee every hour, Most Holy One; Oh! Make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed
Son!

I don’t know why we keep singing this but I was asked again for the words. So…
On the lot again, I just can’t wait to get on the lot again. Honkin’ horns and praising Jesus
with my friends, I can’t wait to get on the lot again.
On the lot again, a band of Christians by the highway. We’re the best of friends, we’re
always singing that it’s thy way, Not my way.
